New Delhi. Speaking to the media at the beginning of the winter session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all MPs to hold healthy debates in Parliament. Addressing the opposition, he accused them of not allowing debate in Parliament. The Prime Minister said that this is the last period of the year 2024. The country is preparing to welcome the year 2025 with full zeal and enthusiasm. This session of Parliament is special in many ways. Now, the most important thing is that the 75-year journey of our Constitution, its entry into year 75, is in itself a very brilliant opportunity for democracy.
The Prime Minister said that tomorrow everyone will gather in the Constituent Assembly to begin the celebration of the 75th year of this Constitution. While drafting the Constitution, the framers of the Constitution debated each and every point in great detail, only then have we received such an excellent document. Its important unit is our Parliament. Our deputies and our Parliament too. There should be a healthy debate in Parliament and more and more people should contribute to the debate. Unfortunately, for their political interests, some people who have been rejected by the public continually try to control Parliament by vandalizing a handful of people. Their own objective is no more successful than stopping the activities of Parliament and the people of the country see all their behaviors and when the time comes, they also punish them. The most painful thing is that some people suppress the rights of new deputies who bring new ideas and new energy. They do not have the opportunity to speak in the House.
In the democratic tradition, the job of each generation is to prepare the next, but those who have been rejected by the public 80 or 90 times do not allow debate in Parliament or respect the spirit of democracy. They also do not understand the aspirations of the people. The result is that they never live up to public expectations. Because of this the public has to reject it again and again.
Prime Minister Modi said that friends, after the general elections in this House of Democracy, the people of the country got an opportunity to express their feelings and views at some places in their respective states. Here too, the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections have been given more strength and the scope of support has increased. It is a condition of democracy that we respect the feelings of the people and work hard and continuously to live up to their expectations. I have repeatedly asked my opposition colleagues and some opposition members to also behave responsibly to ensure the smooth functioning of the House, but those who have been repeatedly rejected by the public do not respect the feelings of their colleagues and neither They respect the sentiments of democracy. I hope our new colleagues get opportunities, there are new colleagues in all parties, they have new ideas, new imagination to take India forward.
The Prime Minister said that while we are sitting in Parliament, we will all have to live up to the public sentiments. The need of the hour is to atone for the time we have lost. Let’s discuss in Parliament in a very healthy way. Generations to come will read it and be inspired by it. I hope this session is very productive. It should strengthen India’s global dignity, it should strengthen new parliamentarians and ideas. With this sentiment, I once again welcome all deputies with enthusiasm and excitement.
