Ludhiana/Chandigarh (Aaj Samaj)Providing better healthcare facilities to the city, local government minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Monday inaugurated several development projects worth about Rs 120 crore in the city. Projects started for construction of Lohara bridge on Sidhwan canal and disposal of old waste accumulated at Jamalpur landfill (around 19.62 lakh metric tonnes) and Jainpur site (over 2 lakh metric tonnes) . The estimated cost of these projects is approximately Rs 120 crore.
Firstly, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh along with Ludhiana South MLA Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aditya Dechalwal inaugurated the bridge construction project (Lohra Bridge) at the Sidhwan canal in Lohara area. This bridge will be constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 12.50 crore. MLA Chhina said this is a long-standing demand of the city residents.
The construction of this bridge will guarantee the fluidity of traffic in the area. Minister Dr Ravjot Singh announced the release of Rs 1 crore from his special quota for development works in South Ludhiana region. Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh along with Ola Grewal and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Aditya Dechalwal inaugurated the project for disposal of approximately 19.62 lakh metric tonnes of waste accumulated at Jamalpur main dumping ground located on Tajpur Road.
Under this project, which is being prepared at a cost of about Rs 100 million, heaps of garbage will be removed. These piles of waste will be eliminated through a bioremediation process. Cabinet Minister and MLA Daljit Singh • Ola Grewal said removal of old garbage will relieve city residents from bad smell. He said that after garbage removal, around 41 acres of Municipal Corporation land will remain vacant and will be used for the welfare of city residents.
