After the demise of former member of the Mewar royal family and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, the coronation ceremony of his eldest son Vishwaraj Singh Mewar took place as per tradition at Chittor Fort on Monday. Vishvaraj Singh, who ascended the throne as the 77th Diwan of Mewar, arrived at Dhuni located at Mewar City Palace, Udaipur. However, he was not allowed to have darshan till late in the night.
Vishwaraj Singh had gone to see Dhuni.
Actually, there has been a tradition in Mewar that after the new Diwan ascends the throne, Dhuni is visited. After this, the mourning is broken up by taking darshan of Ekling ji, but due to Maharana Mewar Charitable Trust’s possession in the City Palace, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar was detained for darshan. We tell you that a day before, a notice was issued in accordance with the law, prohibiting the entry of unauthorized persons to both places. After this notice, owners of 16 places in Mewar called it an insult.
They threw stones to prevent entry
On Monday, when Vishvaraj Singh Mewar started going with his followers for darshan at the City Palace, he was stopped. After this, there was continued discussion, but no agreement could be reached. Late in the evening there was a clash between Vishvaraj Singh Mewar’s supporters and the administration from inside the City Palace. During this period, stonings were also carried out. A police officer was also injured due to stone throwing. During this incident, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar supporters raised slogans.
Both sides maintained their points of view.
We tell you that the family of Arvind Singh Mewar, brother of Mahendra Singh Mewar and uncle of Vishvaraj, has closed the doors of the City Palace to prevent them from following the tradition. Vishvaraj Singh had to go to the City Palace for Dhuni Darshan as per tradition. Lest the atmosphere worsen, district collector Arvind Poswal and SP Yogesh Goyal reached the city palace. An attempt was made to reach a compromise between the two parties, but both remained firm in their views. In such a situation, permission was finally given to take three vehicles inside.
The coronation was done in blood at Chittor.
Earlier, the tradition of installing Vishvaraj Singh Mewar on the throne was followed in Chittorgarh. After democracy, the monarchy ended, but this ritual is performed symbolically. On Monday, the blood coronation ceremony took place during the Dastur (ritual) program at Fateh Prakash Mahal of Chittorgarh Fort. (Entry: Subhash Bairagi)
