Women are becoming their own killers! 140 deaths every day: Report

crimes against women

The most dangerous and unsafe place for women is their own home. We do not say this, but according to data released by two United Nations agencies, every day an average of 140 women and girls in the world are murdered by their partners and family members, or are responsible in one way or another for their murder.

According to data from UN Women, UN Drugs and Crime 2023, in the case of the murder of 51,100 women and girls in the world, their partners or their own relatives were considered responsible. The surprising thing is that these numbers are continually increasing. The figures for 2023 are higher than those for 2022. In 2022, around 48,800 cases of this type were reported.

Women are concerned about gender violence

According to the agencies, women and girls around the world have faced gender-based violence. No area is safe from this type of violence. The most dangerous of these situations are crimes against women in their homes. The reason for the increase in this type of criminal cases is because those who commit violence against women do not receive severe punishments, so instead of a decrease in criminal cases, a continuous increase is observed.

Do not use political power against women

UN Women is campaigning against economically and politically powerful people to stop them from using their powers to commit violence against women. According to the report, Africa ranks first in the number of murders committed by partners and family members. According to data from 2023, approximately 21,700 cases were reported there.

If we look at this figure in relation to the population of Africa, it is quite high. According to the report, 3 out of every 100,000 women in Africa are murdered by their partners or family members. Last year, 1.6 out of every 1 lakh women in the United States were victims of violence. In Oceania there were 1.5 victims per lakh. According to the report, their rates were much lower in Asia, where there were 0.8 victims for every one lakh women.
