The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Haryana (HKV), Mahendragarh, organized a workshop on fact-checking and media literacy on the occasion of World Media and Information Literacy Week held from October 24 to 31 . The objective of this workshop was to promote media literacy and raise awareness to identify misinformation, disinformation and malicious information. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, congratulating himself on the successful organization of the workshop, said that in this era of digital media and artificial intelligence, media and information literacy is very important for all people.
Only when people are sensitive and serious about the media and the information that comes through them, a strong society will be created. Senior editors Urvashi Kapoor and Devika Mehta were present at the workshop. Highlighting the fundamental aspects of media literacy, expert speaker Urvashi Kapoor at the event said that the importance of media literacy is continuously increasing in the current digital era. He explained how people should understand the news spread by the media, analyze it and arrive at the correct information.

He said news without any proof creates confusion in the society. He explained in detail the difference between disinformation, disinformation and malicious information. In this sequence, Devika Mehta, while throwing light on the importance and process of fact-checking, told what important points to pay attention to while doing fact-checking. He said that it is necessary to analyze the domain of the website in detail to know when and who the website was created.
He also informed the participating students about some important tools of the workshop. Mehta also spoke about deepfake technology, which today has become a powerful means of spreading misinformation. He said the increasing use of AI has blurred the boundaries of ethics in journalism. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, while sharing his opinion on the importance of media literacy, said that in current times, media literacy has become necessary for all people.
He said every person should learn to use these fact-checking tools, to stop the spread of misinformation and promote accurate and objective information in society. Later, Dr. Neeraj Karan Singh presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Surendra, Dr. Alek S Nayak and students and researchers of the department were present on this occasion.
