New Delhi. Chandigarh blast: Two explosions occurred near two nightclubs in Chandigarh’s posh Sector 26 on Tuesday morning. The explosions are believed to have been caused by crude bombs. The explosion occurred around four in the morning on Tuesday, when two unidentified people traveling on a motorcycle dropped a low-intensity bomb on the nightclubs.
Sevilla, one of the two bars, belongs to Bollywood singer Badshah. However, according to Chandigarh police, D’Aura – Alehouse & Kitchen restaurant does not belong to Badshah and Seville is next door. According to Chandigarh police sources, the incident cannot be classified as a bomb because the substance used was potash mixed with firecrackers, in large quantities. An attempt was said to have been made to detonate a homemade bomb containing potash, which is used in firecrackers, outside nightclubs in Chandigarh. Some thin jute ropes were also recovered from the site.
The nightclubs were closed at the time of the explosions, so it is believed that these explosions were done just to spread panic. Sources further said that it is a case of extortion. In the initial investigation, behind these explosions an extortion angle comes to light to spread panic among nightclub owners.
Fortunately, no coincidences have been reported. However, many window panes were damaged by the explosion. Currently, forensic teams of Chandigarh police are investigating the case. More information on this incident is awaited.
