The government has issued a warning for Apple iPhone users. Due to a major issue on Apple devices, your personal data may end up in the hands of hackers. The government agency CERT-In said in its advisory that many Apple products, such as iPhones, iPads, Macs, and users of the Apple Safari browser, may be affected due to this issue. To do this, users will need to patch their Apple devices and services with the latest security updates.
What versions are affected?
CERT-In has issued this notice for the following Apple products and versions.
- This issue has been observed on operating system versions prior to Apple iOS 18.1.1 and iPad OS 18.1.1. Because of this, users will need to download the latest security patch for their iPhone.
- Devices with operating systems older than Apple iOS 17.7.2 and iPad OS 17.7.2 will need to download the latest security patch.
- Apple macOS Sequoia operating systems prior to 15.1.1 are affected. These need to be updated with the latest patch.
- Upgrade to Apple Safari versions prior to 18.1.1.
- Apple VisionOS versions prior to 2.1.1 are affected and require an update.

CERT-In has said in its advisory that two types of issues have been found in Apple products: CVE-2024-44308 (execution vulnerability) and CVE-2024-44309 (cross-site scripting vulnerability), due to Hackers can access the device. It may affect arbitrary code and compromise the details present on the device. Update your iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices to the latest versions and security patches mentioned above.
To update Apple devices, users should go to Settings on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac, search for Software Update, and download the latest security version. Doing this will update arbitrary device codes and other things with the latest security patches.
