BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh becomes head of Mewar royal family, tense atmosphere in Udaipur after he was stopped from going to City Palace

BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh was on Monday appointed head of the erstwhile royal family of Mewar in Chittorgarh Fort, following the demise of his father Mahendra Singh Mewar earlier this month. His coronation took place with full rituals.

Both the temple and the palace are in the possession of Arvind, who is the Chairman and Managing Trustee of Shri Eklingji Trust in Udaipur. In two public notices issued by Arvind, it was alleged that this was an attempt to encroach on the name of the function.

For this reason, any outsiders were prohibited from entering the temple and the City Palace. Arvind’s lawyer said legal action would be taken against forced entry or damage to any property. After the ceremony at Chittorgarh Fort, Vishvaraj Singh and his followers reached Udaipur on Monday night to visit the City Palace and the Eklingnathji temple. But due to the intense police deployment, he could not enter.

Vishvaraj Singh’s supporters tried to force their way in by breaking the barricades. But the police did not allow this to happen. Vishvaraj Singh thanked the people of Mewar for raising their voice within the limits of the law.

“I am happy that people raised their voices for the right cause and I am happier that people did not take the law into their own hands while raising their voices. People raised their voices while remaining calm. Mewar is famous for its bravery, but it is also famous for its civilization. But what saddens us is that we saw the administration’s shortcomings and we didn’t see them take action at that time.”

Senior police officials and Udaipur Collector spoke to Vishvaraj Singh and his followers and tried to resolve the matter. He also spoke to Arvind Singh’s son, but it was inconclusive. After being stopped from going to the City Palace, Vishvaraj along with his followers headed to Jagdish Chowk, a few meters away.
