There is a possibility of heavy rain in many areas of Tamil Nadu
Heavy rain occurred in some parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Following this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has transformed into a deep pressure area. IMD further said that it could become a cyclone on November 27. In view of the cyclone, an alert has been issued in many districts of the state. Due to rain, heavy traffic jams were observed in many areas of Chennai including OMR Road and traffic was affected due to waterlogging on roads. In addition, some flights have also been affected.
According to information, rains have been observed in the Cauvery delta region, including Chennai and the surrounding districts of Changalpet, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur, and in the northern coastal cities of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam. Heavy rainfall is forecast in Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Cuddalore districts. The meeting chaired by Stalin was attended by district magistrates and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officials, who have been entrusted with the task of monitoring and coordinating rain-related works.
It may become a cyclonic storm on November 27
In a post on its social media, IMD said there is a good chance that the pressure area will move northwestwards and develop into a cyclonic storm on November 27. After this, it will move northwestwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast, touching the Sri Lanka coast over the next two days. The Meteorological Department has named the storm “Fengal”.
After the Meteorological Department’s forecast, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held a grand meeting of officials at the Secretariat. In this meeting, he ordered to deploy the NDRF and state teams to deal with the situation. Currently, state and NDRF teams have been sent to Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts.
Relief camp and team of doctors ready
In the meeting, the CM was informed that a sufficient number of relief camps and medical equipment are now ready. The situation is being closely monitored. Apart from this, other arrangements have also been made. CM has ordered officials that people from low-lying areas should be evacuated first.
The government had already advised fishermen not to go into the sea. After this most of the boats have returned to shore. At the same time, fishermen engaged in deep sea fishing have been asked to go to the nearest ports. Emergency operations centers have been established at the state and district levels which will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
