New Delhi: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind has approached the Supreme Court in connection with the Sambhal incident. The organization claims that the laws created for the security of places of worship in India are not being applied correctly, which is why these types of incidents occur.
Jamiat alleged that despite the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, the lower courts are issuing orders to conduct a survey of Muslim places of worship. This is clearly a violation of this law.
Hearing on pending petition
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind had already filed a petition in the Supreme Court to ensure safety of places of worship and effective implementation of the law. However, no hearing has been held on this issue for a year.
Former Chief Justice DY During Chandrachud’s tenure, the Central Government had time to file the affidavit several times, so the matter remained pending. Now, after the Sambhal incident, Jamiat has called for a speedy trial in the case.
Letter sent to CJI
Registered Jamiat Advocate Aijaz Maqbool has written a letter to the Registrar of the Supreme Court requesting to file this petition before the Chief Justice of India at the earliest.
Jamiat’s reaction on Sambhal incident
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani said his organization stands with the victims of alleged firing and police brutality in the Sambhal incident. He condemned the incident and said it was another example of violation of the Places of Worship Act, which should be stopped.
Jamiat has appealed to the government and judiciary to take this matter seriously and take concrete steps for effective implementation of the law.
