External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that in the event of the protracted conflict between Russia and Ukraine, people will come to the negotiating table at some level. Jaishankar, who is on an official visit to Italy from November 24 to 26 to participate in the outreach session of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, said the sooner he does it, the better, as the rest of the world will be affected.
Jaishankar said this during an interview given to the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera. He said: “Today we are facing two major conflicts simultaneously. This is putting a lot of pressure on the entire international system.”
Jaishankar was quoted as saying in the interview published on Tuesday: “We can’t just be spectators and say this is so. This may or may not work. Unless we try, we won’t know. But we believe that in both cases In the conflicts in “Ukraine and the Middle East, countries must take the initiative and try, as difficult as it may seem, to find common ground, something better than what we have today.”
On the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Union Minister reiterated that India believes there should be diplomacy to find a way to end the war. And that’s what we’re trying to do.
We tell you that the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022, celebrated its 1,000th day on November 19.
When asked what avenues he saw, the Foreign Minister replied: “Involve the participants.”
He said: “You have to talk to Moscow and kyiv. And that’s what we’re trying to do. Look, it’s been almost three years now. They’re not going to get solutions on the battlefield, are they?” No? We have to talk on some level. The sooner they do it, the better, because the rest of the world is affected too.
Jaishankar said, “It is not that only Europe is bearing the brunt of this conflict. Whatever happens, everyone’s lives are also being affected. So, understand that a large part of the world is facing a crisis. “There is a great feeling.” “More efforts need to be made to bring the participants back to the negotiating table.”
The Foreign Minister also said that the case that countries take the initiative to return to the negotiating table is attractive. And I would like to tell you that this is a very widespread feeling in the world.
When asked what he understood about the future of this conflict, the Foreign Minister said: “We will only know what Russia or Ukraine want when talks start.”
