Controversy in Udaipur royal family, administration appoints receiver

Vishwaraj Singh

There was a fight between the royal family in Udaipur, after this the district administration appointed a receiver for the disputed party in the City Palace located in the city. According to officials, this decision was taken after tension on Monday night when Vishvaraj Singh and his followers entered the place of worship to have darshan of Dhuni.

According to tradition, following the death of former Mewar royal family member and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, the coronation ceremony of his eldest son Vishwaraj Singh Mewar was held on November 25 at the Chittor Fort. After the coronation, Vishvaraj Singh wanted Dhuni’s darshan to be located at Mewar City Palace, Udaipur, but he was not allowed to have darshan. In such a situation, when Vishvaraj Singh’s supporters came to know about this, they protested outside the palace and this protest turned into a huge riot, after which the police were called to control the situation.

designated receiver

Ghantaghar police station house officer Yogendra Kumar Vyas, who was appointed receiver last night by the additional district magistrate, said no possession has been taken so far. He said the situation remained under control on Tuesday. On the other hand, Vishvaraj Singh said that he was stopped from going to Dhuni, which is his right.

Vishvaraj Singh said he will go to Eklingnathji temple on Wednesday. District Collector Arvind Poswal said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons in connection with the stone-pelting that took place last night and legal action will be taken against them under relevant sections. He said efforts are being made to resolve the matter through talks with both sides. Due to the tension, markets near the City Palace also remained closed today.

Why was entry prevented?

There is a dispute between Mahendra Singh Mewar (Vishvaraj’s father) and his younger brother Arvind Singh Mewar and the City Palace is under the control of Vishvaraj’s uncle Arvind Singh Mewar. After being appointed receiver for the stretch from Badi Pol to Dhuni, Vishvaraj Singh went to his residence around 1.30 pm on Monday night without even visiting Dhuni.

At the same time, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, son of uncle Arvind Singh Mewar, said on Tuesday night that it is not right to risk people’s lives in the name of worship or darshan. He said some people holding government positions are pressuring the administration for personal benefits and are trying to break into someone’s house. Lakshyaraj said that there was a possibility of such a situation taking place, which is why we informed the administration several days ago. He said it is not right to deceive people in the name of worship.

Dhuni had to go according to tradition.

Dhuni in the City Palace is the place where Vishvaraj had to go for darshan after ascending the throne. After Dhuni, I was scheduled to visit Eklingnath ji temple in Udaipur, which is under the control of Arvind Singh. The receiver will now take possession of the area and a decision on entry will be made.

Both Dhuni temple and Eklingnath Ji temple are under the control of Arvind Singh Mewar and to prevent Vishvaraj from entering both places, he published two public notices in local newspapers on Monday through his lawyer. In these, legal action was warned in case of usurpation or damage to property.

After the public notice was issued, a strong police force was deployed to handle the situation. After the ceremony, Vishvaraj and his followers reached Udaipur in large numbers in the evening. Vishvaraj waited for several hours at Jagdish Chowk, a few meters from the entrance of the City Palace. During this, his followers protested.

Poswal and Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal intervened in the matter and held several rounds of separate talks with Vishvaraj Singh and his cousin Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar (son of Arvind Singh Mewar) to resolve it, but the talks were inconclusive. Meanwhile, late at night, stone attacks began at the main gate of the City Palace. Stone-pelting took place from both sides, in which three police officers were injured.

As tension rose, the Udaipur additional district magistrate appointed Ghantaghar police station as receiver of the disputed part of the City Palace, from Badi Pol to Dhuni. Vishvaraj Singh is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Nathdwara and his wife Mahima Kumari is the MP from Rajsamand.
