External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his counterparts from several countries, including Britain, France, Ukraine, Lebanon and Croatia, during his three-day visit to Rome. During this, they discussed ways to deepen bilateral relations and increase cooperation on global issues. Jaishankar had arrived in Rome on Sunday and began these meetings on Monday.
Jaishankar started the day with a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Jaishankar discussed the Indo-Pacific, Ukraine war and other global issues with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. The two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and discussed ways to increase cooperation in these areas. Jaishankar expressed his commitment to strengthen the partnership with France. The French minister also appreciated India’s role in the Indo-Pacific and global stability.
Discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine
In talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiha, both leaders emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation. Sibiha praised India’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said India’s role is very important in establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Jaishankar described this meeting as useful and termed it as a new direction for India-Ukraine relations.
Jaishankar also discussed bilateral cooperation and international issues with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib and his Croatian counterpart Gordon Grlic Redman. During this visit, Jaishankar will also participate in the dialogue session of the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Fiuggi, where India has been invited as a guest country. These meetings are considered an important step towards international cooperation and strengthening India’s global diplomatic efforts.
