Dr. Paramjit Singh Kang, Chairman, Department of Extension and Lifelong Learning, shed light in detail on the history of the making of the Constitution. He noted that it took the Constituent Assembly of India almost two years to draft one of the longest and most detailed constitutions. While the Constitution was completed on November 26, 1949, it was not formally implemented on this date to honor the importance of January 26, 1929. It was formally adopted with some operational parts on November 26, 1949 and implemented in its entirety . January 26, 1950, which is celebrated with great pomp on Republic Day every year.
Dr. Kang also explained to the participants the meaning of “Republic” and the importance of the Preamble. He read the entire introduction to the audience.
