Punjab News (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh : State Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Gurmeet Singh Khudian, while reiterating Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to protect the interests of farmers in the state, warned that any trader or company selling substandard agricultural produce The farmers will be saved from any circumstances. The Agriculture Minister also asked the department officials to intensify the special drive on fertilizer and seed testing across the state. The Agriculture Minister said that the state government is continuously striving to raise the standard of living of farmers.
Adulterated DAP found in SBS Nagar
The laboratory test report of 23 bags (50 kg each) of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer seized recently in SBS Nagar district has revealed significant deficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus in the seized stock. The Minister of Agriculture said that DAP generally contains 18% nitrogen, 46% phosphorus and 39.5% water-soluble phosphorus. He said that according to the laboratory test report, only 2.80% nitrogen, 16.23% phosphorus and 14.10% water-soluble phosphorus were detected in the manure.

According to information, farmers in the district had complained that DAP fertilizer was being sold at high prices, following which the Agriculture Department team along with police raided the house of Harkirat Singh, owner of M/s Singh Traders in Udapad village, SBS district. Nagar and during the raid 23 bags of illegally stored DAP were recovered. The Agriculture Department had sent the samples of the seized DAP fertilizer to the Ludhiana Fertilizer Quality Control Laboratory, whose report found that the recovered stock of fertilizer was of poor quality.
