There are thousands of people in the country whose childhood was spent in extreme poverty, but later reached the heights of success due to their hard work. Q. Balamurugan is also one of those people. When Balamurugan was only 9 years old, he used to work as a newsboy because his financial situation was not good. Born in Keelkattalai, Chennai, one of eight siblings, Balamurugan faced many financial challenges at a young age but did not give up and studied and became a civil servant. Although Balamurugan came from a poor family, he was curious about studies. He used to read the Tamil newspaper he sold very carefully. Little by little his desire to study increased and his school teachers also knew it. He also supported Balamurugan a lot in his studies. He used to provide them with books when needed. After his early studies, Balamurugan earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology. During this period he also secured an on-campus placement. He was offered a job at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
He left the job and started preparing for UPSC.
Although Balamurugan’s dream was to become a public servant. Then he started preparing for UPSC. Balamurugan had said in an interview that he was very confused about leaving work and preparing for UPSC. On the one hand, he had a well-paying job and, on the other, he had the dream of becoming a public official. However, Balamurugan gave more importance to his dream. To prepare for UPSC, he also joined a coaching institute in Chennai.

He did not give up due to repeated failures.
He failed the UPSC exam three times, but he did not give up and continued to prepare continuously. In 2018 he finally fulfilled his dream. He was selected as an officer of the Indian Forest Service. His training was completed in the year 2019 and then he started working as an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer in the Rajasthan Forest Department.
