The government has made a big decision regarding satellite service. Indian users are eagerly waiting for it. The government has made a big announcement in Lok Sabha about the satellite network, due to which Jio and Airtel were disappointed. At the same time, the way has been cleared for Elon Musk’s Starlink company to come to India. During the winter session, Union Communications Minister Pemmasani Chandrashekhar made the government’s stance on satellite services clear. Jio and Airtel had recently submitted their demands to the government regarding the allocation of satellite networks.

Decision under the new Telecommunications Law

Union Communications Minister Pemmasani Chandrashekhar said in Lok Sabha that under the new Telecom Act, we will take decisions only in the interest of the citizens of the country. Satellite service will be assigned administratively only. To do this, the allocation process will begin taking into account the economic and technical aspects. Jio and Airtel had demanded the government to follow the auction process for allocation of spectrum such as land mobile networks. However, the government has sought suggestions from the Department of Telecommunications and Regulator (TRAI) for this.

Recommendations sent to TRAI

The Department of Telecommunications has sent a letter on spectrum allocation to the Telecom Regulator (TRAI) for reference, seeking advice on spectrum pricing, technical issues related to licensing, etc. After this, these recommendations will be sent to the satellite service providers. The Union Minister of State for Communications said, “TRAI is yet to send its recommendations to the Transport Department.” A decision on the allocation of satellite spectrum will be made later. Jio and Airtel want the auction process, while Elon Musk’s company Starlink wants spectrum allocation through an administrative process.

close competition between them

Service providers Jio, Airtel, Starlink and Amazon Kuiper are keeping an eye on satellite spectrum allocation. These companies have made their own preparations to provide satellite services in India. Jio and Airtel will be seen joining satellite services like land mobile networks. At the same time, Elon Musk’s Starlink company and Amazon Kuiper will also be present this time. In such a situation, there will be direct competition between these four service providers.
