New Delhi. Hemant Soren will take oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand in a grand ceremony here today i.e. Thursday. The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by several senior leaders including All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will administer oath of office and secrecy to Soren at 4 pm. This will be the 49-year-old Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader’s fourth term as chief minister.
In the recently held assembly elections, Soren retained the Barhait seat by defeating Gamaliel Hembrom of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 39,791 votes. The JMM-led alliance maintained its majority by winning 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 24 seats.
Posters of the oath ceremony can be seen all over Ranchi. In the capital, security measures have been reinforced and traffic regulations have been implemented. Schools are closed in Ranchi city on Thursday in view of the inauguration of the Hemant Soren-led government.
Party general secretary and Congress unit in-charge in Jharkhand Ghulam Ahmed Mir said only Soren will take oath and the cabinet will be expanded after the vote of confidence in the assembly.
A JMM leader said other senior leaders who are likely to be present at the meeting include Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) chief Sharad Pawar, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu. including.
Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) General Secretary (Liberation) Dipankar Bhattacharya, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief , Akhilesh Yadav, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti. and Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav are also likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Soren said: “It is a great pleasure to have such respected leaders with us on this important occasion.” He, along with senior officials, visited the Morhabadi ground on Wednesday night and took stock of the preparations.
