New Delhi: Another important achievement has been achieved in the Indian defense sector. The Indian Army has included the ‘Sabal 20’ logistics drone among its troops. It has been developed by IIT Kanpur and will help deliver supplies to troops in difficult terrain and enhance their operational capabilities.

First deployment in the Eastern Region

On Wednesday, the Indian Army deployed ‘Sabal 20’ drones in the eastern theatre. This sector is responsible for protecting the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Apart from this, the region is also important for counter-terrorism and humanitarian aid operations.

Design and capacity

The Sabal 20 drone is manufactured by the EndureAir company. It is an unmanned electric helicopter based on variable pitch technology. This drone has the capacity to lift up to 20 kg, which is 50% of its own weight. There are also options available to improve it in the future.

The design of the drone is inspired by the technology of the Chinook helicopter. It has a large rotor and tandem rotor configuration, so it can lift more weight and maintain stability on different terrains.

Characteristics

Long distance delivery and operation in high altitude areas.

Ability to operate in narrow and difficult spaces with Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) technology.

There is a chance that the enemy will have no idea because there is less noise and less sound.

Autonomous flight technology and simple controls, allowing it to operate even in BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) conditions.

New stealth technology was also announced.

IIT Kanpur has also launched a new technology called Metamaterial Surface Cloaking System (Analakshya MSCS). This metamaterial is a microwave absorber, which can absorb different waves. It will be used specifically to avoid enemy synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

This technology has been assigned for manufacturing and use under license to Meta Element Systems Pvt. Ltd.

New direction in the defense sector

With technologies like ‘Sabal 20’ and ‘Analakshya MSCS’, India is taking its self-reliance and capability in the defense sector to new heights. These innovations will prove to be a milestone in the field of national security and cutting-edge technology.
