UGC has approved the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Accelerated Degree Program (ADP) and Expanded Degree Program (EDP) in a meeting. According to information, the UGC has issued SOP to complete the three-four year graduation course in less time or to extend the duration of the course.
Giving more information on this decision, UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagadish said that the implementation of the National Credit Framework will bring flexibility to higher education. In this, in addition to the standard-length degree, students will be allowed to complete graduation through the Accelerated Degree Program or the Extended Degree Program.
What will be the benefit for students?
According to the UGC president, after the implementation of this program, students will be able to choose to reduce or extend the time limit of their studies based on their capabilities. Under the Accelerated Degree Program, students will have the option to complete their degree in less time by earning additional credits per semester. While under the Extended Degree Program, students will have the option to complete their degree in more time with fewer credits per semester.
The committee will evaluate
Under ADP and EDP, students will be required to acquire the full prescribed number of credits for a course, but will have the option to increase or decrease one or two semesters. The UGC has directed universities to form committees to run this program smoothly. Only the committee will decide which students are eligible for these programs.
the grades will be the same
Pro Kumar said there will be no difference between the degrees awarded under ADP and EDP, both degrees will be same. Although it will be written in the degree if the student has completed the degree in less time or in more time, but this will not affect its importance.
Kumar said only 10 per cent of the total students will be selected for these programmes. Students must choose these options one semester in advance to select the SOP for these programs.
