In our country, 2 lakh kilograms of ghee are used during Diwali alone and at this time there is a competition to buy ghee in the markets, in such situation some people also sell adulterated ghee. In such a situation, it is necessary to be alert if you are eating fake ghee. Aaj Tak examined two cans of one liter of ghee each. The company name Amul is written on both cans, pure desi ghee is written on both cans, it is described as real ghee on both cans and QR codes are written on both cans. When you go to buy ghee from the market, these two containers are not available there, so you may buy fake ghee and take it home.
How dangerous is fake ghee?
First of all, you must know how dangerous fake ghee can be? Our team sent samples of this fake ghee to a laboratory in Delhi for analysis and their investigation revealed that this fake ghee does not contain even 0.1 percent ghee. This ghee is actually not ghee at all, and it would be wrong to call it fake ghee. Fake ghee means ghee which contains some part of real ghee and the rest is adulterated, but according to this lab report, there is absolutely no trace of ghee in this fake ghee which is sold in the name of Amul company. .
Fake ghee can cause many serious diseases
Real ghee does not contain hydrogenated fats. But some parts of this FAT have been found in this fake and this FAT can be very dangerous for heart patients and it is TRANS FAT, which can cause many serious diseases. Apart from this, there is no vegetable fat in pure desi ghee but the presence of this vegetable fat in this fake ghee has also been confirmed and this is the vegetable fat that can cause heart disease and can also cause type 2 diabetes.
Apart from this, it was also revealed in the research that real ghee definitely contains elements like myristic acid and stearic acid and if these elements are not present in any ghee, then it cannot be ghee. These two elements are also not found in this ghee, which shows that it is not actually fake ghee.
What does the Amul company say?
The Amul company says that the boxes in which this ghee is sold were used three years ago. To save people from fake ghee, Amul company changed the packaging of real ghee, but the people marketing it are so smart that they started it. selling lubricants and other things in old packaging with chemical smell of real ghee. We inform you that currently the proportion of Amul company’s ghee in packaged ghee sold in Indian markets is 20 percent.
How much is the ghee market in India?
The price of fake ghee in Hathras is Rs 240 to Rs 260 per kg, while the price of standard desi ghee is Rs 500 to Rs 700 per kg. The ghee market in India was Rs 3.32 lakh crore (year 2023), while by 2032 the ghee market will be Rs 6.9 lakh crore.
Aajtak carried out a covert operation
Our Special Investigation Team (SIT) reached Hathras in Uttar Pradesh in the form of a retailer from Delhi and we met Vishnu Varshney, a big supplier of ghee. We requested to buy ghee in large quantities in view of the festival, and he assured us that he can pack ghee in fake boxes from branded companies. Supplier Vishnu Varshney agreed to give us packaged ghee from a big reputed company for Rs 240 per kg, while standard ghee from that company is usually available for Rs 600 per kg.
Fake ghee smells like real ghee
Vishnu refused to tell us how and where he makes this ghee, but he entered his house and brought a sample to show us. The sample that Vishnu showed us looked like ghee, its smell was also like real ghee, but in reality it was a mixture of vegetable oil and refined oil, to which essence of ghee was added. We tried to show him that we liked his ghee sample. After this, he showed fake Amul boxes to pack his ghee. We also asked him if he had boxes of other brands, he said that at the moment he did not have them, but that arrangements would be made.
Pooja ghee is also fake
In Hathras, fake ghee is packed in branded containers. After this, our team caught another person making ghee through hidden camera, who makes his own brand of puja ghee and sells it in the name of puja material, but what really happens in it, you can understand like this. Ghee lamps are of great importance to Hindus. Be it Navratri, Diwali or any other auspicious occasion. But have you ever wondered whether the ‘puja ghee’ in the market contains real ghee or not? I spoke to Mehul Khandelwal for this. Who owns a factory manufacturing puja materials in Hathras? Mehul Khandelwal claimed that he makes various types of ghee that are used in puja, but does not sell duplicate products under any brand name.
