The Congress gives way to the SP in the UP by-elections, what does it mean?

By-elections are underway for nine Uttar Pradesh assembly seats. There was a dispute between the alliance of the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Congress regarding these seats. While the Congress had claimed five seats, the SP had offered it only two: Ghaziabad Sadar and the Khair assembly seat in Aligarh district. It was said that the Congress might refuse to participate in the elections for these two seats and this is what happened. The Grand Old Party has given free rein to Akhilesh Yadav in UP. The SP chief himself posted on Instagram and informed that the Indian Alliance candidates will contest for the nine seats with the SP symbol. Before the Haryana elections, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had entered into an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party. However, the alliance could not be finalized. Talks with the SP also continued, but the Congress did not give up a single seat. After the Congress’s defeat in Haryana, allied leaders also started holding up a mirror to it.
