Chennai: A case of gas leak in a school in the city has come to light. After the gas leak incident, many students had to be hospitalized. During this time, along with the children, some teachers also faced breathing difficulties. The incident is said to have occurred at the Matriculation Higher Secondary School located in Tiruvottiyur. More than 30 students here reportedly started feeling discomfort and throat irritation due to the gas leak. After this he was admitted to the hospital. Currently, authorities say all affected students are safe and are being treated.
Panic created after difficulty breathing.
NDRF Commander AK Chauhan said, ‘At this stage, we still cannot know the exact reason. Our team came and assessed the situation, everything was normal and we didn’t smell any gas or air conditioning leaks.” Another student said: “Some of us had to leave the class to get some fresh air. Even our teachers experienced breathing difficulties. “Some students even fainted and our teachers brought them back to normal.”
Students admitted to hospital
It is reported that as soon as the students complained of restlessness, the school management informed the ambulance. After this, the students were taken to the hospital. Police said it was unclear whether the leak originated at the school or its surroundings, where a chemical factory was located. The students’ families also arrived at the scene. Parents of the affected children accused school authorities of not providing clear information about the situation. One parent said: “The school administration is not giving clear information. My son is still under observation in the hospital. He had a burning sensation in his throat for the last three days, which we thought was mild, but today he “they entered.”
