A 26-year-old woman was killed while her younger brother was seriously injured in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Friday. According to the police, this accident occurred in the Kokhraj police station area when both the brother and sister were returning after bathing at Sandipan Ghat of the Ganges river.
Sirathu CO Awadhesh Kumar Vishwakarma said the accident occurred on the Bharwari-Manjhanpur highway, when a speeding truck collided with his two-wheeler. The collision was so severe that the woman, Priyanka Sonkar (a resident of Vishara village), died on the spot, while her brother, Raju, suffered serious injuries.
According to the news agency report, the police officer said that the truck driver fled the scene after the accident. As soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached the spot and immediately admitted the injured Raju to the local hospital for treatment.
Police said Priyanka’s body has been sent for an autopsy and the incident is being investigated. Police are scanning the footage from CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area to identify and arrest the truck driver.
There is an atmosphere of mourning in Priyanka’s family over her death. Villagers have expressed concern over the high speed of vehicles on the road and the increase in accidents. Locals say that effective measures should be taken to control the speed of vehicles on the Bharwari-Manjhanpur highway so that such incidents can be prevented.
