DMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pudukottai MM Abdullah responded in Tamil to the letter written in Hindi by Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu. He said he “didn't understand a single word of the letter.” This matter came into discussion when Abdullah shared copies of both letters on social media and expressed his displeasure and said he had to remind officials several times. , correspondence is sent in Hindi only.

This letter from Bittu was in response to questions MP Abdullah had raised about issues related to the quality and cleanliness of food in trains. The DMK MP said he had called officials posted at the Union Minister of State for Railways' office several times and asked that the letter be sent in English as he did not understand Hindi. Despite this, letters were continuously sent only in Hindi.

Abdullah said, 'The letter sent from the office of the Minister of State for Railways is always in Hindi. I called the officials posted in their office and told them that I don't understand Hindi, please send the letter in English, but still the letter was sent only in Hindi. This time I have sent the reply in such a manner that the Minister can understand it and take appropriate action.” He wrote in Tamil and requested the Union Minister that in future any kind of correspondence with him be done only in English so that there is no There should be no gap in communication. There should be no obstruction.

DMK reiterated its protest in this regard, accusing him of imposing Hindi. Notably, earlier in 2022 too, DMK had accused the Center of imposing Hindi in other parts of the country. The controversy deepened further after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on this issue, in which he stated that Hindi should be an alternative to English and not local languages. On this, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reacted strongly and said that the attempt to impose Hindi by force will affect the unity and integrity of the country.
