Ghaziabad by election: BJP strong in Ghaziabad by-election, SP-BSP raises challenge with caste card – Major political parties and caste equations in Ghaziabad assembly seat 56 ntc

Candidates of BJP and major political party SP filed their nomination papers on Friday, the last day of nomination for the by-elections to be held in Ghaziabad municipal assembly. Now, while the candidates' images regarding the elections have become clearer, the strategies of the major political parties regarding this election season have also come to the fore. While the BJP has named its organisation's metropolitan president Sanjeev Sharma, who is a Brahmin by caste, as its candidate for the post of MLA from the Ghaziabad assembly seat, the main political party BSP has chosen PN Garg as its candidate of the Vaishya community. However, the SP has made a big and unexpected bid for this seat and has fielded Dalit caste candidate Singh Raj Jatav for this general seat in this election season.

BJP is considered strong in this seat, because BJP's Atul Garg won the MLA elections from this seat twice consecutively in 2017 and 2022 and after becoming MP in the last Lok Sabha elections, this seat fell vacant and but now by- elections are being held. Sunita Dayal, current mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, is from the BJP. Lok Sabha MP Atul Garg is also from the BJP. At the same time, MLAs from Loni, Muradnagar and Modinagar Sahibabad assembly seats also belong to the BJP. This is the reason why this seat is counted among the strong seats of the BJP.

The total number of voters in Ghaziabad City Assembly seat 56 is 4,61,360, of which 2,54,017 are male voters. There are 2,07,314 women voters, while 29 are transgender. According to estimates, the highest number of Dalit voters in this assembly seat is 82,500, followed by 55,900 Brahmins and 4,325 voters from the Tyagi community. There are 44,380 OBC voters and 36,780 Vaishya community voters, around 35,500 Muslim voters and over 26,000 Thakur voters, around 12,000 Punjabi voters and 11,700 Yadav voters are also in this seat. Apart from this, voters from Gurjar, Jat, Kayastha and other castes also occupy this seat.
