What is Chhath Puja?

Let us tell you that Chhath is a Hindu festival celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and other regions. According to the Hindu calendar, it occurs on the sixth day of the month of Kartik and is also known as Surya Shashthi. In this festival, purity and fasting along with religious rituals are observed for four days. On the first day there is a dip in the sacred river and devotees usually bring Ganges water home for the ritual. The second day is known as Kharna, in which a day-long fast is observed and ends with the offering of Arghya to Mother Earth. On the third day afternoon, Prasad prepares to offer Arghya to the setting Sun, which is also called Sanjhiya Arghya. On the last day, before breaking the fast, devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun and distribute Prasad among neighbors and relatives. (entrance-agency)
