However, considering the overall situation, the education administration ratified the results-based admissions policy. The Chairman of the Dhaka Board of Education, Professor Syed Aktaruzzaman, stated that final instructions regarding the admissions process would be issued a couple of days before the release of the SSC exam results.
SSC and equivalent results released on August 10 (2026 SSC results release date)
The results of the 2026 SSC and equivalent exams will be released on August 10. Initially scheduled for July 20, the release was postponed until August 10 due to the boards not having finalized their preparations. This postponement has also altered the timeline for the start of online applications for eleventh grade (eleventh grade admissions start date after the SSC results are released).

The Dhaka Board of Education will centrally manage this admissions process with technical assistance from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Application Process: Students must submit their application online after paying the required fee.
Choices: A student may apply by selecting a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 universities or equivalent educational institutions.
Nomination: The student will be selected for admission to an institution based on their grade point average/results, ranking, and preferences.
Exception: This rule applies to all universities and madrasas in the country, except for some institutions that administer their own examinations, such as Notre Dame College Dhaka. However, the admissions process will be conducted separately under the supervision of the technical board.

The board is debating whether to maintain or cancel quotas for different categories. An education council official stated that the government must make a policy decision regarding the admissions quota (Admissions Quota Policy for High School in Bangladesh). Consequently, the Ministry of Education will issue the final notification on the quota.

This year, there are more than 2.6 million places available for admission to Grade 11 in universities and madrasas across the country. In contrast, the total number of candidates for the High School and equivalent exams was just over 1.857 million. However, 25,408 candidates were absent on the first day of the exam.
Since the total number of places exceeds the number of test takers by more than 800,000, there will be a large number of vacancies in eleventh-grade universities in Bangladesh again this year. However, the final number of vacancies will depend on the pass rate of the 2026 SSC, which will be published on August 10.
