Many health related schemes have been started in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One of them is Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). According to which, Prime Minister Modi is likely to launch health insurance for all people aged 70 years and above on October 29. Along with this, the U-WIN portal developed to maintain electronic record of periodic vaccination will also be launched on the same day.
It is said that apart from these two, other projects will also begin on Tuesday, October 29. The U-WIN platform, similar to the COVID-19 Co-WIN vaccine management system, is designed to maintain permanent digital vaccination records of pregnant women and children from birth to 17 years of age.
6 million citizens will benefit
Sources say there is a possibility of launching an expanded scheme under the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme, which will benefit around 6 million citizens from around 4.5 million families. Every person above 70 years of age is entitled to get Ayushman Card. After the launch of the expanded scheme, AB can get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh at any hospital included under PMJAY.

As of September 1, 2024, a total of 29,648 hospitals, including 12,696 private hospitals, were listed in the PMJAY. This scheme is currently being implemented in 33 states and union territories of the country except Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal. Where seniors will be able to fully benefit from this plan.
According to sources, anyone aged 70 years or above as per the age recorded in the Aadhar card will be eligible to apply for this scheme.
