The cyclone in Odisha interrupts the electricity supply in 50,000 houses and the tariff for mobile charging is fixed

After Cyclone ‘Dana’ in Odisha, power supply remains completely disrupted in 50,000 houses.

In Odisha, power supply has not been restored to more than 50,000 houses in the districts affected by Cyclone Dana. Chief Minister of State Mohan Charan Manjhi gave this information to the media on Sunday after taking stock of the situation after the cyclone. He said power supply is yet to be provided to around 50,000 houses in the cyclone-affected areas of Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts of the state.

At the same time, people in these districts are facing many problems due to lack of electricity. People stand in long lines in front of the generator to charge their mobile phone batteries. Not only this, you have to pay Rs 20 per hour to charge the mobile phone battery. If you want to fill the water tank, you have to pay 300 rupees. CM Manjhi says due to waterlogging, electricity has not been restored in these areas.

About 30 thousand people are still in shelters – CM Manjhi

CM Mohan Charan Manjhi said that the repair work has reached the final stage. Closed roads have been reopened. He said power supply has been restored in 98 percent of the affected areas. Of the 22.84 lakh electricity consumers affected by the cyclone, electricity reached 22.32 lakh houses. He said power supply is yet to be restored to around 50,000 houses in Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts as the villages are submerged.

He said that around 7,000 employees are committed to restoring electricity supply in the areas affected by the cyclone. The state government has shifted more than 8 lakh people to 6,210 shelter centers in the affected area. At the same time, the CM said that once the situation normalized, most people returned to their homes. He said that in total about 30,000 people are still in 470 shelters because their houses are submerged in water.

Instructions for submitting the DM injury evaluation report

The Chief Minister said that as per preliminary estimates, over 2.21 lakh acres of standing crops in 4,100 villages in 12 blocks of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj have been damaged in the natural disaster. He said a detailed assessment of the damage will be carried out after the water level in the areas recedes. CM said district collectors have been asked to submit the damage assessment report by November 2. So that compensation can be given to the affected people.

On the other hand, faced with the problem of electricity, people take care of their own affairs. Those who have generator sets that run on gasoline and diesel provide services to the population of the area by charging money. A youth from Nuagaon village in Bhadrak district said, ‘I have paid Rs 20 per hour to charge my mobile phone. We request the administration to restore power supply as soon as possible.
