The BRICS conference is being organized in the Russian city of Kazan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kazan to participate in this conference. Prime Minister Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan. Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, Pejeshkian emphasized the need for peace in West Asia and India’s role in reducing the conflict due to its good relations with all parties.

This is the first meeting between Pejeshkian, who became Iran’s president after winning the elections, and Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas, including the Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said there was a “significant discussion” between Prime Minister Modi and Iranian President Pejeshkian. The two leaders also discussed the situation in West Asia, Misri said, expressing deep concern over the escalating conflict and reiterating India’s call for the protection of civilians. He stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions.

Ways to further strengthen cooperation in various fields were discussed.
