Yesterday, the Odisha government closed schools and universities for the safety of the people of its state. Last night, the Mamata government of West Bengal announced a holiday in many districts of the state for 3 days for the safety and well-being of children.
Schools and colleges closed in 9 districts
On Tuesday, the Mamata government of West Bengal, facing the threat of cyclonic storm ‘Dana’, ordered 23 in 9 districts (East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah and Kolkata). ). Schools and colleges will remain closed till October 25, 2024. Additionally, all Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centers in these districts will also remain closed.
Due to this cyclonic storm, the state government has decided to close all academic institutions as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers and non-teaching staff. Students, parents and guardians are advised to stay in regular contact with school authorities for updates on school closures, online classes and other information.
Likely to become a severe cyclonic storm
The IMD earlier said that the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal could develop into a severe cyclonic storm on October 23 and reach the coasts near Odisha and West Bengal on October 24. Cyclone Dana is expected to cause heavy rain in both states for at least 3 days.
Schools will open in Odisha on the 28th.
Similarly, in view of Cyclone Dana, the Odisha government had also adopted lockdown measures a day earlier in a total of 14 districts including Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur , Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh and Cuttack districts have been declared holidays in all schools, colleges and educational institutions. As a precautionary measure, schools will remain closed until October 25. Since October 26 and 27 are Saturday and Sunday, schools will reopen on October 28, i.e. Monday.
