The Election Commission has rejected as baseless the Congress’ allegations of irregularities in the Haryana elections. The Election Commission issued a statement on Tuesday warning Congress and other political parties against making unfounded and sensational complaints at sensitive times such as voting and counting days. The Commission said irresponsible allegations can cause unrest and anarchy among the public.
The Election Commission asked the Congress to desist from making baseless accusations election after election and harshly criticized the party for making accusations in the face of unexpected election results. The Commission urged Congress to take firm and concrete measures and stop the trend of these types of complaints.
The Commission said every stage of the electoral process in Haryana was seamless and was carried out under the supervision of Congress candidates or agents. Returning officers of 26 assembly constituencies carried out intensive re-verification. Congress received a 1,600-page response from Election Commission officials on all the complaints.
