The Ovala-Majiwada assembly seat came into existence in 2009 after delimitation. Shiv Sena leader Pratap Sarnaik won from here for the first time. In these elections, he defeated the MNS candidate Sudhakar Vaman Chavan by a margin of over 9,000 votes. Later, in the elections held in 2014, he defeated the BJP candidate, Sanjay Pandey, by 10,906 votes. After this, Pratap Sarnaik scored a hat-trick of victory in the 2019 elections. In the 2019 elections he defeated Congress candidate Vikrant Bhimsen Chavan by more than 84,000 votes.
What are the caste statistics of the seat?
In the Ovala-Majiwada assembly seat, which falls under the unreserved category, Muslim, Yadav, Rajput and Patil voters, along with Dalits and tribals, are playing a decisive role in the victory. According to 2019 figures, in this seat, which has 4 lakh 24,000 voters, apart from about 25,000 Dalits, there are more than 20,000 Muslim voters. Additionally, there are more than 17,000 tribal voters here. Along with them, there are more than 12,000 Yadav voters and more than 11,000 Rajput voters.
