Horrible accidents have happened to many players on the cricket field. Unfortunately, some players have lost their lives, while many players’ careers ended due to these accidents. Now a similar danger looms over an Australian cricketer, who suffered a painful injury during the match. This accident occurred with Australian goalkeeper Bridget Patterson, who was playing for Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League. While playing against the Sydney Sixers, the ball hit him hard in the right eye, after which panic spread throughout the field.

In the fifth match of the new WBBL season that had just begun, on Tuesday, October 29, the match between Adelaide and Sydney was played. In this match, Adelaide batted first and scored a solid score of 171 runs in 20 overs. Before the wicketkeeping mishap, Bridget Patterson had shown her magic with the bat and scored a team-high 44 runs. She played this innings with the help of 6 fours and 1 six in 32 balls while Amanda Jade Wellington scored 40 runs in just 16 balls.

The ball cheated, aimed at the eye.

After this, Sydney Sixers started chasing the target and even lost a wicket to the third over. Right after this this terrifying incident occurred. Fast bowler Darcy Brown was bowling in the fourth over. On her fourth ball, Alice Parry missed her shot and the ball started heading towards the keeper. This is where the ball betrayed Patterson. The ball actually took one more step before reaching goalkeeper Patterson, but due to the uneven bounce, the ball bounced much further than expected.

Patterson was on her knees to catch the ball, but with a high bounce right in front of her, the ball hit her directly in the eye. The Adelaide goalkeeper immediately covered her eyes with her gloves and lay down on the field moaning in pain. Immediately the medical team arrived on the ground and began to know the condition of the eye. Patterson’s condition appeared very bad when blood began to flow from the wound. Blood was visible on his head, near his ears. In such a situation, Patterson was taken off the field.

The coach gave an update on the injury

After the match, Adelaide coach Luke Williams gave some encouraging news. He said the injury was very painful but that Patterson has not suffered any serious injuries and should recover soon. Backup goalkeeper ER Johnston was brought on in place of Patterson and only then was the match completed. Adelaide won this match by a narrow margin of 11 runs. Alice Perry’s innings of 54 runs in just 28 balls and Sarah Bryce’s innings of 62 runs were also not enough to give Sydney the victory. This was Adelaide’s first win in two matches, while Sydney’s first defeat in as many matches.
