It’s time to light Yama’s lamp.
The auspicious time to light the Yama lamp on Dhanteras will be from 5.30 pm to 7.02 pm on October 29. Light the Yama lamp during this period.
The story behind lighting the lamp.
According to legend, in some kingdom there was a king named Hem. By the grace of God he had a son. In the son’s horoscope it was written that the prince would die four days after the wedding. In such a situation, the king sent him to a place where the shadow of no girl could fall on him, but there he married a princess.
According to custom, on the fourth day of the wedding, Yamraj’s messengers came to the prince. The prince’s wife went into mourning and asked the messengers for a solution to avoid a premature death. The messengers told all these things to Yamraj. Then Yamraj said that death is inevitable. But the person who lights the lamp on the day of Dhanteras, i.e. Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of the month of Kartik, can be saved from premature death. This is the reason why there is a tradition of lighting the Yama lamp every year on Dhanteras.
