The process of filing nominations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections ended on Tuesday as October 29 was the last date to file nominations. All parties seem fully prepared, and it has now become clear which party is contesting how many seats in Maharashtra’s 288 seats. In Maharashtra, the BJP is contesting the maximum number of seats, while the Congress seats have reduced slightly this time compared to the last time.

The BJP will contest the elections to 148 assembly seats in Maharashtra. While the Congress is contesting elections for 103 seats. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has fielded its candidates for 80 seats, while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s NCP has announced the names of 53 candidates. Apart from this, five seats were given to other allies of Mahayuti, while in two segments no decision was taken.

Congress has maximum seats in MVA

In the opposition Mahavikas Aghadi, i.e. the MVA alliance, the Congress has a maximum of 103 seats. After this, Shiv Sena (UBT)-led Uddhav Thackeray is contesting on 89 seats and Sharad Pawar’s SP is fielding its candidates on 87 seats. The remaining 6 seats have been given to parties allied to Mahavikas Aghadi, while no decision has yet been taken on three assembly constituencies.

8 thousand candidates submitted nominations

Around 8,000 candidates from the ruling and opposition parties have filed their nominations for 288 assembly seats. A statement issued by the state Chief Electoral Officer’s office said 7,995 candidates have filed 10,905 nominations with the Election Commission (EC). The nomination submission process began on October 22.

Today, October 30, the verification and scrutiny of nomination documents and withdrawal of candidacy will take place. Next month, voting will be held in a single phase on November 20 and the results will be announced on November 23, so all parties have also started the campaign.
