Short Diwali 2024: The Chhoti Diwali festival is celebrated a day before Diwali. Today, i.e. October 30, Chhoti Diwali is celebrated. How many lamps to light on Chhoti Diwali?
Every year, the festival of Chhoti Diwali is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of the Krishna Paksha month of the Kartik month. Chhoti Diwali is also known as Narak Chaturdashi and Narak Chaudas. There is a tradition of lighting 14 lamps on the day of Chhoti Diwali. The number of these 14 lamps lit on the day of Chhoti Diwali is different from the number of lamps lit in front of the house temple.
Follow these rules on Chhoti Diwali day
On the day of Chhoti Diwali, first of all light a ghee lamp in front of your favorite deity or the deity installed in the house. On the day of Chhoti Diwali, a lamp is lit in the name of Yama Dev. The second lamp is lit in the name of Goddess Kali and the third lamp is lit in the name of Lord Krishna. While the fourth and fifth lamps are lit at the main entrance of the house and in the east direction of the house. Apart from this, it is also important to light a mustard oil lamp near the kitchen, terrace and stairs on the day of Chhoti Diwali. On the day of Chhoti Diwali, a lamp is placed at the main door of the house, outside, at the intersection and also at the vacant place. The southern direction is considered to be from Yama Dev, so keep this direction clean on the day of Chhoti Diwali. A lamp with the name of Yama Dev is lit in the south direction. Please note that on the day of Chhoti Diwali, keep the lamp in a place where no one can touch it with their feet. The Yama lamp should only be lit by keeping it outside the door or house.
