JPC to visit 5 states in a week, Waqf bill to be introduced in winter session

In recent days, the Waqf Amendment Bill has been in the news a lot, on which a committee has been formed to examine it, at whose meeting held on Tuesday there was a lot of excitement. Opposition parties protested when Delhi Waqf Board administrator Ashwini Kumar was called to the JPC meeting and as soon as he arrived, members started creating ruckus and raising slogans.

Now the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf will visit five states in a week and hold meetings with stakeholders. This will be the last visit of the public consultation committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024. Due to this, the Joint Parliamentary Committee will start its tour from Guwahati, capital of Assam, on November 9. Later on November 11, the committee will visit Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

After this, the CPM will move to Kolkata, West Bengal, and visit there on November 12. Next, JPC will visit Patna, Bihar. After this, he will visit the Joint Parliamentary Committee in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on the 13th. This will be the last visit of the committee to hear and understand the Waqf matters. Upon returning from this tour, the committee will meet in Delhi and prepare its final report.

The JPC will prepare its report in the last week of November and present it in the winter session of Parliament. Earlier, the Joint Parliamentary Commission had visited five states in six days. It met for five consecutive days, from September 26 to October 1, and met with the minority bodies of seven states. During this period, the JPC visited Mumbai on September 26 and Gujarat the next day on September 27, Hyderabad on September 28, Chennai on September 30 and Bengaluru on October 1. In addition to this, the committee also held a meeting with the local minority commission and other interested parties.
