Apple is focusing on increasing manufacturing and assembly units outside China, in India. The company has built a great track record in iPhone exports. Apple has exported iPhones worth about $6 billion from India. The company aims to export iPhones made in India worth $10 billion.

Apple’s focus on India

Apple is focusing on India due to the government’s Make in India policy and the country’s technological capabilities, including local subsidies and skilled labor. iPhone manufacturing in India takes place on the outskirts of Chennai. Currently Foxconn is the largest iPhone supplier in India. At the same time, Tata Group’s electronics manufacturing unit has exported iPhones worth $1.7 billion to Karnataka from April to September.

After the launch of iPhone 16, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in his official post that X was made in India, which was made possible by the Central Government’s Make in India programme. Due to the expansion of iPhone manufacturing in India, employment opportunities are also increasing here. Currently, Apple is assembling the iPhone SE, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 models in India.
