The committee constituted by the Central Government to review the National Testing Agency has submitted its report to the Ministry of Education. The seven-member committee was formed under the chairmanship of former ISRO chief Dr K. Radhakrishnan. After the leak of the NEET UG paper, doubts were raised regarding the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), following which this committee was formed for its review.

The committee has recommended to conduct the NEET UG exam in hybrid mode with multiple phases and online. The committee has also recommended many reforms in the CUET exam. Which includes narrowing down the choice of subjects available in CUET.

Limited choice of topics.

According to the Indian Express report, the CUET committee has suggested limiting the selection of subjects for candidates. Currently, in the upcoming CUET exam conducted by NTA, students have the option to choose from more than 50 subjects, out of which they are allowed to appear in 6 subjects. That means students can select 6 out of 50 subjects for the exam.

Why was it recommended to reduce the subjects?

According to media reports, due to so many topics, many questionnaires need to be conducted and the number of people appearing in them increases. Therefore, maintaining the security and confidentiality of the exam is a challenging task. If the number of subjects is reduced, it will be easier to maintain the confidentiality and security of the exam.

Who is included on the committee?

The expert committee, along with Radhakrishnan, includes former AIIMS director Randeep Guleria, Hyderabad central vice chancellor BJ Rao, Ramamurthy K, professor emeritus of civil engineering department at IIT Madras, board member of Karmayogi Bharat, Pankaj Bansal, to Aditya Mittal, professor at IIT Delhi and others are included in the Ministry of Education.
