Baghdad: The Iraqi Prime Minister has said that a commander of the Islamic State terrorist organization and eight other terrorists have been killed during a military operation. At the same time, US officials said that US and Iraqi security forces carried out a joint operation overnight on Monday and during the operation, two US soldiers were also wounded.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said Jassim al-Mazruei Abu Abdul Kadir was killed in a joint operation by counter-terrorism security forces and the National Security Service in the mountainous region of Hamreen in Salahuddin province. “There is no place for terrorism in Iraq,” al-Sudani said in a statement. U.S. Department of Defense Pentagon Press Secretary and U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said the condition of the two U.S. soldiers injured during the operation is stable. Ryder and other U.S. officials said top Islamic State militants were targeted during the operation. However, he did not confirm whether Abdul Qadir was killed in the attack.

Another US official said the Pentagon was waiting for final investigative analysis before revealing the identities of the slain militants. The Joint Operations Command said in a statement that the operation was carried out “based on accurate intelligence information from international coalition forces.” According to the statement, the announcement about the terrorists killed in the attack will be made after the DNA test.
