Mumbai: The BJP has clarified that it will not campaign for Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate Nawab Malik in the assembly elections due to his alleged links with fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, but has no objections to his candidacy. daughter. Former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday filed his nomination as the NCP candidate led by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency. The Ajit Pawar-led party had submitted the nomination forms to Nawab Malik minutes before the deadline for nominations. The NCP is contesting as part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the assembly elections to be held on November 20. The grand alliance also includes the BJP and Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde.
Bail granted for medical reasons
BJP Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar issued a video message on Tuesday night making clear the party’s stance that it will not campaign for Nawab Malik. Malik was first arrested in 2022 in the case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against his associates, including Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel and Tiger Memon. Malik was granted bail on medical grounds in July this year. After the NCP split in July last year, the Ajit Pawar-led faction inducted the MLA despite the BJP’s objections.
In his video message, Shelar said: “BJP has been clear on this stance from the beginning. All Mahayuti electors were allowed to decide their own candidates. The concern was only about Nawab Malik’s nomination by the NCP.” He said: ”Both I and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have repeatedly clarified the BJP’s stand in this regard. I say once again that the BJP will not campaign for Nawab Malik. Our view on Dawood and all those associated with him. and his case is very clear.

When asked about Sana Malik’s candidature from Anushakti Nagar seat, the BJP leader said, “Till any evidence or information in this regard comes to light, the BJP will consider the Mahayuti candidate as its own and there will be no question Congress leader Sachin in this regard. Sawant, however, criticized the BJP, saying its stance showed the party’s hypocrisy and double standards. When asked about the BJP’s position, senior NCP leader and former Union minister Praful Patel said: “Nawab Malik has been our leader for a long time. Nothing new has happened in making him the party’s candidate for assembly elections. All NDA constituents will discuss this issue and do whatever is necessary to bring our alliance back to power.
