Shah is violating model code of conduct: TMC

4 p.m. News Network
Lucknow. The Trinamool Congress has written a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). In the letter, TMC has said that the model code of conduct clearly states that ministers should combine their official tours and election campaign work. Government machinery or private machinery should not be used during election campaign work to promote the interests of the ruling party.
The scope of the directions covers the administrative wards of Haroa and Naihati constituencies under North 24 Parganas, the letter said, even though Amit Shah made the political comments at an official event in Petrapole, North 24 Parganas on October 27. .
In the letter, West Bengal Trinamool Congress state president Subrata Bakshi alleged that during the official speech at the Petrapole event, Amit Shah made derogatory comments against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the intention of defaming her. The letter said the politically charged comments calling for a change in the year 2026 were in no way related to the incident. This raises serious doubts about the Union Home Minister’s intention to toe the line between official programs and election campaign work.
According to Trinamool Congress state president Subrata Bakshi, this is a blatant violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). It has asked the Election Commission to issue a show cause notice to Amit Shah, issue appropriate directions to stakeholders and to him and other BJP leaders not to violate the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the by-elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said during an event in West Bengal on October 27 that state-sponsored infiltration and crimes against women in the state will stop only when the BJP comes to power in the state. in the 2026 assembly elections.
