Telangana govt’s demand to Centre: ‘OBC caste census should be included in census’

The ruling Congress in Telangana passed a resolution in a meeting demanding the Central Government to include the OBC caste census in the proposed census next year. In this Congress meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other leaders were present. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said the meeting was called to discuss the comprehensive social, educational, economic, labour, political and caste survey conducted by the state government.

SC-ST people will be counted

He said: “The TPCC took cognizance of the decision of the Government of India to conduct the census in 2025. The TPCC passed a resolution demanding from the Government of India that the OBC caste census be included in the next decennial census. In In this regard, the orders of the Government of India must be issued immediately.” The proposal states that people belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes will be counted in the census. There should also be an OBC caste census.

A proposal will be sent to the Center: CM

Chief Minister Reddy said that the state government will send a proposal on this issue to the central government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Bharat Jodo, advocated conducting a caste census in the country and proposed the idea of ​​distribution of resources in proportion to population. Mahesh Kumar Gaur praised the Congress government for conducting a caste survey in the state. (Language)
