The reputation of political stalwarts is at stake in the Uttar Pradesh Katehari Assembly by-elections. Although the faces of the candidates are before the voters, the reputation of the great leaders of the SP, BJP and BSP is at stake in the elections. SP’s Shobhavati Verma, BJP’s Dharamraj Nishad and BSP’s Amit Verma are in the fray. But its electoral command is in the hands of the party’s great leaders.
CM Adityanath has held public meetings twice in Katehari assembly constituency.
Where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself has taken the responsibility of winning the Katehari Assembly by-elections. His two cabinet ministers, Swatrantdev Singh and Daya Shankar Mishra Dayalu, have been continuously camping in the Katehri Legislative Assembly for months. That is why visits from other ministers continue from time to time. State Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak, who attended the nomination meeting, announced the approval of the Katehari Legislative Assembly and appealed for the victory of candidate Dharamraj Nishad. Chief Minister Adityanath has held public meetings twice in Katehari assembly constituency. And I have also given gifts worth millions of rupees to the people of Katehri. Apart from the ministers, important officials of the BJP organization also continuously operate in Katehri.
The reputation of SP’s Shivpal Yadav and Lalji Verma is at stake.
The Samajwadi Party candidate may be Shobhawati Verma, but SP MP from Ambedkar Nagar Lalji Verma’s reputation is at stake. Because Katehari Legislative Assembly remains his workplace since 2012. However, he lost the 2012 elections. But despite this, he stood firm in the fight and became an MLA by winning the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. Now, after becoming an MP, Katehri’s seat became vacant. Lalji Verma is a great leader of Ambedkarnagar district. In the BSP government he was a cabinet minister for important departments of all governments. Therefore, it is nothing less than a prestige for him to make his wife contest and win elections for the first time. Apart from this, the party has appointed SP national general secretary Shivpal Yadav in charge of the Katehari Assembly by-elections and entrusted him with the responsibility of winning the elections.
BSP in search of lost prestige
The BSP also contested the district by-elections for the first time. Amit Verma, who recently stepped down as Congress district president and joined the BSP, has been fielded as a candidate. Ambedkar Nagar was once a BSP stronghold. And once again the BSP is trying to regain lost ground. Perhaps that is why BSP state president Vishwanath Pal remains in Katehari.
