A notorious gangster was killed during a police encounter in Amritsar, Punjab. This encounter occurred when the gangster and one of his associates were trying to escape from police custody. During this time, the gangster’s partner managed to escape. The police are looking for him.
Local police officials said a gangster was killed in an encounter with police on Wednesday. The deceased criminal and his accomplice are accused in the murder case. The slain gangster has been identified as Gursharan. While his accomplice in the escape has been identified as Paras.
Police said that the police had taken gangster Gursharan and Paras to a place in the district to recover some goods, when suddenly both miscreants picked up weapons hidden in the bushes and tried to flee. During that time he opened fire on the Amritsar Rural Police personnel.
When the police opened fire in self-defence, the gangster Gursharan was killed, while his companion managed to escape by jumping into the Paras river. The police officer said that a search was launched to capture him.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Satinder Singh said in a statement that the gangsters were taken to the place where they had hidden the weapons as per the disclosure made to the police.
However, both gangsters suddenly pushed the police officers and fled. He said that after taking possession of their weapons that were hidden behind the bushes, they opened fire on the police party. The DIG said the accused were arrested in several criminal cases, including murder.
