Ipl 2025 Retention: Who will Kolkata Knight Riders retain?

A mega auction will be organized in November for the IPL 2025 season. Before that, all the 10 teams have to announce the names of the players retained from their respective squads from the last season and the last date for that announcement has arrived. The BCCI has set the retention date till October 31 and this deadline ends on Thursday. Only on the afternoon of October 31 will it be officially known which team will retain, how many and which players, but even before that the retention outlook for almost all the teams was already clear.

Just a day before the deadline i.e. October 30, media reports made it clear that this time big players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and current IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer will not be retained . All of these players will submit their claims directly in the mega auction. You can see the full list of possible retentions for each team here.

Which team will retain which player?

  1. Riders of the Knights of Calcutta: The team can retain Sunil Narine, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakraborty, Ramandeep Singh and Harshit Rana. While captain Shreyas Iyer, veteran Andre Russell and the most expensive player in IPL history Mitchell Starc will be released.
  2. Hyderabad Sunrise: Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy will be retained. Players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar will be released.
  3. Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matisha Patirana and Shivam Dubey will be retained. Players like Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra and Deepak Chahar will be released.
  4. Bombay Indians: Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma and Naman Dheer will remain. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan, Tim David, Nehal Vadhera and others will be released.
  5. Real Challengers from Bangalore: Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal and Rajat Patidar are likely to be retained. Many high-profile players, including captain Faf du Plessis, Mohammad Siraj and Glenn Maxwell, are being released.
  6. Capitals of Delhi: Only Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abhishek Porel remain. At the same time, many important and new players like captain Rishabh Pant, David Warner and Khalil Ahmed may be released.
  7. Lucknow Super Giants: Nicholas Puran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni will be retained. At the same time, big players like captain KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Quinton de Kock will come up for auction.
  8. Gujarat Titans: Captain Shubhman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudarshan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan seem to be retained. Experienced players like Mohammed Shami, David Miller, Umesh Yadav and Kane Williamson will be released.
  9. Kings of Punjab: Only Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh are likely to be retained. Famous players like Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingston will also be released along with everyone else while Shikhar Dhawan has retired.
  10. Rajasthan Royals: Captain Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Sandeep Sharma are likely to be retained, while Dhruv Jurel’s name is also under discussion. The rest of the players, including Jos Buttler, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult and Ravichandran Ashwin, can be released.
