Hezbollah chief Naeem Qasim
The new head of Hezbollah, Naim Qasim, issued his first statement after assuming command of the group. Naeem Qasim said Wednesday that he will stick to the war plan prepared by former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. He said he would agree to a ceasefire with Israel under certain conditions.
New Hezbollah chief Naim Qasim said: “My work program will continue like the work program of our leader Hassan Nasrallah.” He promised to carry forward the Iran-backed group’s war plan that Nasrallah had prepared with the leaders.
Armistice accepted, but certain conditions.
Naeem Qasim said he would accept a ceasefire with Israel under certain conditions. Qasim said that if the Israelis decide that they want to stop the attack, then we will also accept their point, but we will accept Israel’s point with some conditions.
The Hezbollah chief said the group was recovering from repeated Israeli attacks since Nasrallah’s assassination. After Israel’s “painful” attacks, Hezbollah has once again begun to recover from those attacks and “has begun to work filling vacant positions, appointing alternative leaders and putting everything in order,” he said.
Who is Naeem Qasim?
Former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli strike on September 27. Now, a month after the death of Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah has handed over command of the group to Naeem Qasim. The group had announced on Monday that Naeem Qasim would be the new head of the group. Qasim is one of Hezbollah’s most prominent figures. He worked as deputy secretary general of Hezbollah for the past 30 years. Hezbollah said that following the group’s protocol, Naim Qasim was appointed head by the Shura Council. Naim Qassim was born in 1953 in Beirut to a family from southern Lebanon. Naeem Qasim is a founding member of Hezbollah.
