In West Bengal’s Malda district, the Salisi Sabha (Panchayat Sabha) issued a Taliban order and publicly tied a couple to a lamp post and beat them. Upon getting information about the incident, when the police came to arrest them, the local people attacked the police. The angry mob is alleged to have attacked the inspector in charge of the police station (Apart from vandalizing the IC vehicle, bricks were also thrown at the police. Some police officers were injured in the incident.
The incident took place in Sherpur village of Jalalpur Gram Panchayat area of Kaliachak Police Station area of Malda district. The incident occurred last Tuesday night. This video is going viral in the area.
According to police and local sources, a group of villagers saw a couple in a mango orchard, accused them of having extramarital affairs, caught them, took them out on the road and beat them brutally. After this, as punishment, the loving couple was tied to electric poles and allegedly brutally beaten.
Police attacked to save a couple
As soon as the news was received, police from Kaliachak police station reached Sherpur village of Jalalpur. The agitated crowd prevented the loving couple from being saved. With this, altercations between the crowd and the police began. It is alleged that suddenly some villagers started beating the police officers. Even the IC car was vandalized.
The police officers were allegedly attacked with sticks and stones. Later, IC Suman Roy Choudhary of Kaliachak police station reached the spot with a large number of police forces, but the angry residents also vandalized IC’s car. Many police officers were injured by bricks and sticks.
The police retaliated with lathi charges and took control of the situation, rescued the couple and took them to Kaliachak police station. Police have arrested three people in this incident.
